Deanna Baier is our Tribal Childrens' Service Worker. Deanna will begin working on training and coursework for acting as an advocate for tribal children and a liaison between the state and the children and families. In the meantime, Deanna has been very busy coordinating and facilitating community prevention activities like Native Dancing, Native Arts and Crafts Activities, Community Potlucks, and working with the school and our children. The Bristol Bay
Native Association Social Services Department will assist us with liaison activities between the state and the children and families of our tribe as needed.
Deanna also operates our Culture Camp and collaborate with SAFE for their Summer Youth Program over the summers and falls; there were about 47 youth participants with an average attendance of 37 per day, about six staff, and five adult volunteers. Gift: packages of salmon and jelly were given to about fifty elders by the youth at our 2015 Annual Potluck.
We work with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in past years and put together our Curyung Community Prevention Plan. That plan is updated on at least an annual basis through our Wellness Committee. A copy of this plan is included in your meeting packet.
