Deanna Baier is our ICWA Case Worker II. Deanna acts as an advocate for tribal children and a liaison between the state child protection services and the children and families. Deanna also provides prevention and wellness activities, coordinating and facilitating community prevention activities like Native Dancing, Native Arts and Crafts Activities, Community fairs, and working with the school and our children. The Bristol Bay Native Association Family Services Department will assist us with liaison activities between the state and the children and families of our tribe as needed.
Deanna also operates our Culture Camps in June and July; coordinating with SAFE for their Summer Youth Program for youth in grades K-5. Each camp accepts 30 youth each month. At the end of the summer, the campers honor Elders at the Elder and Youth community celebration; presenting Elders with gifts made and collected over the summer.
We work with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in past years and put together our Curyung Community Prevention Plan. That plan is updated on at least an annual basis through our Wellness Committee. A copy of this plan is included in your meeting packet.
