The Curyung Tribal Council receives about $600,000 per year through Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide housing services to Alaska Natives and American Indians with low to moderate income. We leave half of it with the Bristol Bay Housing Authority and receive half of it at the tribe every year.
The half, or about $300,000, that is left with the Bristol Bay Housing Authority goes into a pool with several other regional tribes. Funding through this pool is rotated around the participating tribes every year for construction of new homes or acquisition of existing homes for eligible applicants. Through this agreement, the Curyung Tribal Council receives this service every five years, the next round scheduled for 2017.
The other half of the funds are received by the Curyung Tribal Council to offer eligible applicants housing services for:
Modernization-makes repairs to existing homes owned by the eligible applicant
Rental Subsidy-pays for part of an eligible applicant's rent payments in Forest View Apartments
Provides for Planning and Administration costs of 20%
Covers the cost for the Housing Manager's salary, office rent, supplies, accounting services, and housing's share of the annual audit
We will be able to construct/acquire six homes, provide Modernization services to five to eight homes, and provide for rental assistance to approximately seven families/individuals per month in the Bristol Bay Housing Authority’s Forest View Apartments every year with our usual NAHASDA funding.
